2015 FALL JAPAN EVENTS REPORT
Tokyo Exhibition: Narrative Patterns
October 2 to 18, 2015

CfSHE Gallery, Arts Chiyoda 3331 #B109 Tokyo, Japan 101-0021; Reception and Talk: Friday, October 2, 2015, 6:30-9:30
the Hibiya Library.

Back in Tokyo I enjoyed visits to the Edo-Tokyo Museum, the Eisei Bunko Museum, the Japan Print Association Exhibition and the National Museum of Tokyo, before spending my last two days welcoming visitors and signing books at the CfSHE gallery. It was rewarding to have so much good response after many years of quietly working on the book. I am grateful to the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs for a writing residency at Mi-Lab in 2014, and to the University of Maine, Orono for time and space to work on the photography. I feel fortunate that Random House provided me with a great editor and a wonderful designer, as well as excellent publicity and wide distribution network.

2015 CONFERENCE REPORT SEPTEMBER 18 TO 21, 2015
IMPACT, Hangzhou, China Printmaking in the Post-Print Age

The four day conference at the China Academy of Art included impressive exhibitions and talks by international educators and printmakers, including Wayne Crothers and the always amazing Ralph Kiggell, as well as paper and printmaking presentations organized by Awagami Paper. Amazing exhibitions, talks and demonstrations, too many to list here; the best might be meetings with old friends from Japan, Denmark, Australia and other countries. A special event was the demonstration of traditional Chinese woodcut printing by contemporary artists at the Purple Bamboo Studio. I am especially grateful to Wang Chao for demonstrating the unique characteristics of traditional Chinese woodcut, a technique that grew from the same roots as Japanese woodcut.
